IronPdf · Composer 2019.6.5.0 .The goal of this training program is to provide a multidisciplinary series of intense research experiences and training in the neurobiology and plasticity of mammalian CNS as it relates to aging and age-related neurological disorders. The program is structured so that the trainees may acquire a knowledge of the research methods and techniques available for the study of the complex information flow and central neurobiology of the mammalian nervous system. The principal emphasis of this program is on the study of specific neurochemical mechanisms that are involved in the regulation of the dopamine and serotonin systems and in neuroplasticity of these systems in the CNS. The candidate, who holds both a Ph.D. and a post-doctoral degree in the neurosciences, is an established basic and translational neuroscientist and has been in the forefront of studies in rodent models of psychiatric and neurological disorders of aging. The candidate’s long term research goals are to develop the candidate’s research skills into an independent academic research career as it relates to the pathophysiology of CNS disorders associated with aging and neurodegeneration. This program is designed to bring together four basic and two clinical research faculty from three departments, the Departments of Internal Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Neurosciences. The program brings together a cadre of faculty members with active research programs focused on the research areas identified above and includes 27 faculty members in the laboratories of the neuroscientists who have laboratory space to accommodate students. A formal Faculty Advisory Committee evaluates the progress of the students and makes recommendations for the continued successful funding of the training program.
