A good image editor is an essential tool. Unless you are an expert in how to use one and have some knowledge of the various software programs that are available, it is a good idea to try something else. However, it is worth learning to use Photoshop for a variety of reasons. For example, you can work with an image to make it look as if it is already published to a business card or print product. Furthermore, if you are working in photo–editing for online publishing or social media, Photoshop is a must have. On the other hand, if you just want to edit an image and enhance it, you can use GIMP (free) or Adobe Photoshop Elements (free) or another simple editor like Paint.net (free). When you are ready to edit an image in Photoshop, make sure that you have these basic tools: A computer with Adobe Photoshop software installed A compatible printer Picture taking and viewing software An image that’s been captured from a digital camera or that you have printed on paper A flat image that is one color (CMYK) or black and white (gray, RGB, or grayscale), and that has a border or not, such as a.jpg,.tif, or.png file format Access to an Internet service Following are a few ways that you can use Photoshop: You can work on one file and then save it. You can work on several files at the same time. You can take a snapshot (sometimes called a _quick snapshot_ ) that you can use later on as a starting point. You can use an image as a background and work on other layers over it. You can move the background behind the other layers or even make it transparent.
