* **Command** : Highlight the image or command that you want to use. * **Control** : Use your mouse to click the right mouse button, or hold down the _Alt_ key and press the right mouse button at the same time, while highlighting the image you want to use. In Figure 1-3, you can see this for the image of the girl from my dog book. I highlight the image, right-click, and choose the Displace function. This highlights the girl and moves her upward so that her head no longer meets the ground. * **Zoom Tool:** To zoom in on an image, use the Zoom Tool to select the image and change the Size and Fit box options. You can also use the Zoom Tool to select an area of an image you want to crop, magnify, resize, or otherwise edit. FIGURE 1-3: The Displace function puts your object into a different location. # THE DIFFERENT WAYS TO WORK WITH MASKS A _mask_ is a selection that limits the area of an image that is affected by a particular edit. When the mask is filled with black — a _black-and-white mask_, in other words — Photoshop leaves that area alone, letting it remain as is. If you highlight the area that you want to modify and then choose Edit⇒Fill, a dialog box appears where you can adjust the shape of the fill, as shown in Figure 1-4. FIGURE 1-4: Photoshop allows you to manipulate the shape of a fill. When you create a fill, you can change the following options: * **Blend mode:** I recommend experimenting with different modes as you work. For example, if you want to make the fill as sharp as possible, choose Linear Burn. (Refer to the next section for details on working with the Blend modes.) * **Opacity:** To add, subtract, or alter the transparency of a fill, use the Opacity slider in the Fill dialog box. * **Blend method:** You can choose Normal, Soft Light, Hard Light, Vivid Light, Overlay, Difference, Exclusion, Dodge, Burn, and Screen. All but Dodge, Burn, and Screen blend the colors within the selection you select. * **Color:** The colors that you use for your fill are color dependent. After

Q: Where to get a macbook pro. retina 13 inch late 2013 I’m wondering where to get the late 2013 model macbook pro, retina 13 inch with: Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 SDRAM Graphics: AMD Radeon HD Graphics I’m thinking on getting from these sellers: A: What you want is a non-Retina MacBook Pro with the Intel Core i5-5200U processor (like yours) and 8GB of RAM. I’d recommend avoiding the SSD option, although you might be able to use a cheap SSD from another Mac if you take advantage of the free shipping that Amazon offers in India. How much is that USB C to DisplayPort adapter? USB C is a promising technology, but it will take a bit of time for the hardware support to catch up with the technology. If you are planning to use an external monitor over HDMI then the adapter may be worth it. A 21-year-old woman was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison for her role in a fatal drunken-driving crash, though jurors rejected her claim of innocence as an act of her boyfriend. Farrah Jones was convicted by a Snohomish County jury of vehicular manslaughter and causing injury to a child. Before the guilty verdict was read, Jones pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of reckless driving while under the influence. Her boyfriend, Scott Dellenback, was the driver in the crash. He later was charged with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter. Prosecutors say the killing was premeditated after Dellenback and Jones spent a party with vodka and beer on the night of the crash. “It was ultimately my negligence and his negligence that resulted in the death of another person,” said Jones, a mother of three who is being held without bail. Dellenback declined to comment as he left a courtroom hearing with family members, friends and representatives of the victim’s parents. The Toyota Corolla driven by Jones — who prosecutors say was over the legal limit for alcohol — careened across Interstate 405, slamming into the car carrying the four family members. Angela and William LaFond of Issaquah, three of their sons and a 4-year-old niece were killed. Prosecutors said Jones was driving about 103 miles an hour, well above the speed limit, when she lost control of the car at an intersection in Lake Forest Park, about 11 miles from the crash site, about 1:30 a.m. July 29, 2008. The car slammed into the LaFonds’ vehicle, which had stopped for traffic, sending it careening into oncoming traffic. Jones was seen on video running from the scene, the defendant’s family contended. Jurors decided Dellenback and Jones had a symbiotic relationship, that Jones was acting as a surrogate mother for Dellenback’s children, and that she had drunk from Dellenback’s liquor cabinet and lied to police about her consumption. “It was a dysfunctional, horrendous, tragic situation that has destroyed the lives of many,” said Snohomish County Deputy Prosecutor Nora Gee. Jones is the first woman in Washington to be convicted of vehicular manslaughter since Washington adopted the DUI law. Convicted drunken drivers in the past have typically received only fines and jail
