You haven’t given us any information. Maybe tell us where you found the download, what your browser’s connection type and version are, the operating system and how you got the download, etc.
Your “error” is… none of the files can be read. That’s pretty much the big N. No error, so no error handling.

After you clicked “Download”, what did you do? The first thing you did was “Download”, right? No? What did you do after that?

Not an error. That’s how things work. Do you get a message at all that’s any different from a normal download? How did you zipped those files?
In most cases, you need to unzip them first, then “download” that. If you don’t, you’ll get an empty file. In any case, this tells us nothing about the problem.

There’s no need to use \w, it’s redundant. Then you should not use re.findall, because it splits each word for you. Use re.finditer instead, and then just use len(list):
