Equipped with the right applications, a computer can be of great help in virtually any domain of activity. When it comes to designing and precision, no other tool is as accurate as a computer. Moreover, specialized applications such as AutoCAD give you the possibility to design nearly anything ranging from art, to complex mechanical parts or even buildings. Suitable for business environments and experienced users After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts. Create 2D and 3D objects You can make use of basic geometrical shapes to define your objects, as well as draw custom ones. Needless to say that you can take advantage of a multitude of tools that aim to enhance precision. A grid can be enabled so that you can easily snap elements, as well as adding anchor points to fully customize shapes. With a little imagination and patience on your behalf, nearly anything can be achieved. Available tools allow you to create 3D objects from scratch and have them fully enhanced with high-quality textures. A powerful navigation pane is put at your disposal so that you can carefully position the camera to get a clearer view of the area of interest. Various export possibilities Similar to a modern web browser, each project is displayed in its own tab. This comes in handy, especially for comparison views. Moreover, layouts and layers also play important roles, as it makes objects handling a little easier. Sine the application is not the easiest to carry around, requiring a slightly sophisticated machine to properly run, there are several export options put at your disposal so that the projects itself can be moved around. Aside from the application specific format, you can save as an image file of multiple types, PDF, FBX and a few more. Additionally, it can be sent via email, directly printed out on a sheet of paper, or even sent to a 3D printing service, if available. To end with All in all, AutoCAD remains one of the top applications used by professionals to achieve great precision with projects of nearly any type. It encourages usage with incredible offers for student licenses so you get acquainted with its abundance of features early on. A lot can be said about what it can and can't do, but the true surprise lies in discovering it step-by-step.
Autodesk’s primary competitor is AutoDesk Inventor, which is a product from the same company (Autodesk). AutoDesk Inventor is included in the Autodesk Inventor Series, which is the Autodesk portfolio of products. Some key differences are that AutoDesk Inventor is an open-source project while AutoCAD is not. Autodesk Inventor is a cross-platform product that runs on any operating system that supports OpenGL, while AutoCAD only supports Windows, macOS, and Linux. AutoCAD is not a cross-platform product, but the current versions can be run in a virtual environment using VirtualBox on a Windows or Linux operating system. In this article, I will be reviewing the latest version of AutoCAD 2019 on Windows 10. I will compare AutoCAD’s performance and features against Inventor 2019 on Windows 10. I will also take a look at what new features are included in AutoCAD 2019 and see how AutoCAD compares to AutoCAD LT. For a tutorial on how to use Inventor 2019, please refer to this tutorial: Tutorial: Using Inventor 2019 for Beginners. AutoCAD vs AutoDesk Inventor 2019 – General Comparison AutoCAD AutoCAD is a commercial computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting software application developed by Autodesk, a company that is now owned by the Finnish company, Algoriddm. AutoCAD is available for Microsoft Windows and macOS operating systems. It is available as a desktop app, mobile app, and cloud-based app. AutoCAD can be used in either 2D or 3D mode. When AutoCAD is first opened, it will display a user interface (UI) that is built using objects called acadents. Some of the acadents include a start, point, linetype, label, and text. Most of the controls of the UI are hidden. To use AutoCAD, a user needs to select the acadent that will be used, then click the arrow in the upper left corner of the UI to display the controls. A user can hide or show any or all of the controls. The 2D and 3D views are shown in separate windows. In order to open a drawing, the acadent must be in a drawing. A drawing can be opened by selecting the acadent or by
3D AutoCAD has come to be recognized as a valuable tool for 3D editing, modeling and rendering. In addition, it supports the AutoLISP language as well as VBA which allows the automation of complex tasks. 3D has been a vital part of AutoCAD since its inception and has grown in significance and functionality over time. The first release of AutoCAD introduced the concept of 3D in an auto-exporting drafting program. With the introduction of the ribbon in AutoCAD 2, it started to take a larger role in the program. The core of AutoCAD’s 3D functionality resides within the product’s native 3D engine. In addition, it has a number of 3D plugins for the various supported AutoCAD file formats. With the release of AutoCAD 2016, the 3D Product Engineering Module (PEM) was introduced to support more complex tasks in the creation, maintenance, and configuration of CAD models. 3D allows the user to create and import 3D solid geometry, mesh, point clouds, surfaces and volumetric data. Also it allows the user to import surfaces (CAD X, Archicad, Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Revit, Solidworks, AutoCAD Architecture and Unigraphics). AutoCAD has extensive 3D support that allows the user to import/export DWG, X_DWG, and DXF 3D object models in DXF, X_DWG, and StereoLithography (STL) formats. A number of CAD packages, many of which include 2D, 3D and presentation software, have been created based on AutoCAD. AutoCAD LT is one of the most popular of these. This allows the user to upgrade from AutoCAD 2012 without the need to purchase AutoCAD 2010. Plotter AutoCAD has two dedicated plotters. The first, the HP LaserJet plotter, is an HP LaserJet 3270dn manufactured in the 1980s. It uses the Hewlett Packard FineScan II scanner. This scanner supports line, arcs, and polygon. In 1998, Autodesk introduced a second dedicated plotter, the HP Designjet 3520DN. This device has a laser output and it is used by most big design shops and the most of OEMs in the world.
